What is LAGA™
LAGA™ (Ladies Amateur Golf Association) is an organization of female amateur golfers with a handicap index of 12.0 or less. What started with less than 20 members in 1989 has grown to over 70 members today.
Our membership includes entrepreneurs, homemakers, graphic designers, Veterans, USGA Rules Officials, doctors, accountants, pilots, consultants, golf administrators, sports coaches, and ex-collegiate golfers. Many of LAGA™ members are course raters for local and national publications such as The Dallas Morning News and Golf Digest.
Our members range in age from early 20s to mid-70s. LAGA™is proud to have had three previous USGA national champions in our organization: Carolyn Creekmore, Mina Hardin, and Anna Schultz.
Because most of our members enjoy competitive golf (both locally and nationally), all playdays are conducted in accordance with the rules of the USGA. We play yardages between 5,600 and 6200 yards, with an average slope and rating of 73.9/133. On average there are approximately 15-30 golfers at each play day.
We start our season with a fun team event - The Challenge Cup: A 2 day, 16 Lady team match play against 16 Ladies from South Texas. The Challenge Cup matches play all 18 holes each day and a point is available for each hole. We wrap up every season with the Texas Cup: an exciting Ryder Cup style golf tournament between North Texas and South Texas. To learn more about this historic event
A unique problem was discovered in 1989 by one of our founding members. She was new to the DFW area and realized that there weren’t many opportunities for women with low handicaps to play golf together. After several brainstorming sessions with other local women, LAGA™was born. Local country clubs loved the idea so much, they agreed to let LAGA™play for no green fees. After the first year, there were 10 country clubs and 20 members.
Fast forward to today, there are 30 clubs and over 70 members. LAGA™playdays occur at a variety of facilities: historic private clubs, local municipal golf courses, and everywhere in between.
Our mission in LAGA™is very simple: create opportunities for all lower handicap female golfers to play together on a regular basis. We do this to experience the true interest and spirit of the game of golf.
Whether you are looking to get ready for an upcoming golf tournament, or you are looking to escape reality for a few hours (or both), we would love for you to join us.
We average approximately 30 playdays per season beginning in mid to late March and ending with the Texas Cup in late October to early November. Our courses include prestigious private country clubs as well as high end public courses. Our "opening day" consists of golf, lunch, and our business meeting. Our member courses are listed in the Members Only section of the website. Play days are scheduled on various days of the week including some Saturdays. We have both tee time and shotgun starts and the format will always be listed on the sign up and play day schedule. Some play days require a limited field, usually capped at 24 players.
